Original Cottages: A World Away campaign

Where in the world

We love this campaign idea from Original Cottages. When you’re uncertain about travelling overseas because of currency fluctuations and border control unknowns (in Brexit times), imagine yourself aboard while discovering somewhere very similar at home!

It was also a great way to showcase the #trulylocal nature of the Original Cottages brand - made up of 25+ regional self-catering agencies across England and Wales with destination experts on hand to make your staycation as memorable as any far flung location.

Feel a world away right here in the UK

Tropical sunsets, Mediterranean coastlines and Alpine peaks — you don’t have to travel the world to experience some of its most beautiful spectacles. To make it easier for our guests to discover dreamy holiday destinations right here in the UK, we’ve compared some of the world’s most popular holiday hotspots to counties close to home with our #AWorldAway campaign.

Ibiza or Cornwall?

Did you know Ibizan style sunsets can be seen in Cornwall? There's nothing quite like the Cornish light and beaches that roll out one after the other, after the other. Bask in the warm-hues of Mediterranean-style sunsets as amber rays glisten off Cornish seascapes, wander the lanes of picturesque harbourside villages, and enjoy family barbeques on golden beaches.

California or Devon?

You could ride the waves of the Devon surf much like those crashing the Californian coastline without the need to top up on fake tan first! Surfers ride pacific-blue waters, where breathtaking cliff formations reach out into the ocean, and tropical palms line the bustling beaches of The English Riviera.

The Med or Dorset?

This astonishing area holds as much history as the shorelines of Greece. Unique cliff lines resemble the Mediterranean wild landscapes, while Spanish-style sandy beaches await you in Dorset.

Bordeaux or Kent?

If wobbling from wine cellar to wine cellar was on your tourist tick list, ditch Bordeaux in favour of fine English wines blooming in the lush Kent countryside. From Chapel Down to Biddendan and every artisan producer in between… "Taxi!"

Iceland or Lancashire?

If you don't want to pack your winter togs for Iceland and you'd prefer to travel light, look to Lancashire. Beyond the bright lights of Blackpool to the hair-raising climbs and seemingly ceaseless descents of its wild valleys - oh and the view of all views atop Pendle Hill.

Basque country or Lake District?

Discover the lush greenery, mountain ranges and untouched countryside of the Basque Country in the Lake District. Stroll off-the-beaten-track through cloud-tipped peaks, and past breathtaking horizons reflecting on glass-like lakes. You’ll be sure of a warm welcome from the proud and friendly locals.

Gold Coast or Norfolk?

Can't face the airfare or the flight time to Australia? Norfolk's got its very own Gold Coast courtesy of ever-lasting sprays of sand and its fair share of wildlife too - seals, seals and more seals. Bathe on golden sands and rugged dunes under cloudless blue skies along the north coast of Norfolk, or cruise the intricate Broads that snake inland like the Gold Coast waterways.

Sweden or Northumberland?

Go in search of Swedish serenity without stepping near an airport, in Northumberland. Beyond Bamburgh and Alnwick there's a world of thick, coniferous forests teeming with wildlife, raw wilderness and lakes so still they shimmer like glass to explore. Myths, legends and hoots of history abound without a sniff of a crowd.

Tuscany or Suffolk?

Pack your paints and head to Suffolk, immersed in Tuscan-like countryside. Emerald green trees and meadows shimmer under horizon-stretching blue skies. Glorious coastline, charming villages and a sophisticated foody culture inspires artists and captivates visitors in Suffolk as in Tuscany.

Vegas or Sussex?

Celebrate under the bright lights of Sussex’s Vegas-style city by the sea, Brighton. Streets that never sleep, vibrant neons that glow through the night, and a bustling atmosphere on a quintessentially-British seafront. Beyond the city, there’s excellent hiking and cycling routes to explore. Who needs Red Rock Canyon when you’ve got the chalky cliff faces of the Seven Sisters in the South Downs National Park?

Alps or Wales?

Climbing Alpine-like mountains in Cymru you'll never know you're in Wales as you swoon as you discover the secrets hidden within its vast, unspoilt countryside. With snow-tipped peaks and spectacular glacial lakes to explore, you’ll feel a million miles away in Wales. A world of outdoor adventure beckons, with hiking in Snowdonia, coasteering, sailing, gorge walking to name a few.

Denmark or Yorkshire?

Discover Danish views right here in Yorkshire. Ramble across wide-open spaces of meadows and rolling hills, through rugged heather-topped moors, and along dramatic coastlines intertwined with a Viking past.
